The Shockers (7-0-1) vs. The Woodchucks (6-2)
The Shockers are on a quest for their 3rd straight JSGFFL championship as well as their 3rd unbeaten season in a row. The Shockers were able to overcome the Warewolves 27-24 in the semi-final matchup last week even though the Shockers were trailing the entire game only to take a lead in the final 2 minutes. Devon Snead and the Guffslinger both had big games as the Shockers battled back from the early double digit deficit. The Shockers will have their hands full this week as they take on the Zit and his Woodchucks. The Woodchucks were in control for the entire game against the Rabid Squirrels last week as they won 32-12. The Shockers won the previous matchup against the Woodchucks 39-28 in Week 3.
This game looks like it may be a battle of the QBs as it boasts the league’s top 2 rated passers and most likely All-Pro 1st and 2nd team QBs. The Guffslinger was the top rated QB in the league at 137.4. He threw for 2,817 yards, which was 2nd behind Zitani’s 2,840. Guiffre and the Zit were tied for the most touchdowns in the league at 45.
The Shockers have many playmakers outside of the Guffslinger on offense. They have 4 WR ranked in the top 12 on the JSGFFL leaderboard. Devon Snead leads the receiving corps as he had 39 receptions for 697 yards and 10 TDs. Charlie Barbiere (34 rec. 526 yards, 5 TDs), Ryan “King TUTdown” Pharo (28 rec. 382 yards, 8 TDs), and Anthony Spanola (32 rec. 400 yards, 8 TDs) round out the rest of the talented options that the Guffslinger has at his disposal.
The Woodchucks have some playmakers themselves at receiver. Led by Jeremy Wozniak (32 rec. 475 yards, 8 TDs), Anthony D’Addario (35 rec. 415 yards, 4 TDs), and Chris D’Addario (25 rec. 346 yards, 7 Tds). The Woodchucks have also received big games out of Charlie Mackie and Terron Maples when the 2 have been able to attend the games. They will need both Mackie and Maples to be present for the Championship if they hope to upset the unbeaten Shockers.
The Woodchucks defense gave up the least amount of points this season, and will have to come up big in this game for them to walk away as Summer Champs. The Woodchucks D is up for the challenge led by Devon McEllen who was tied for most interceptions in the league with 4. Kevin Kastner led the league in sacks with 11, and the Woodchucks defense was 2nd in the league to French Toast Mafia in team sacks.
Overall, this game should be a close and hard fought battle. The Shockers are definitely the favorites coming into this game, but the game still has to be played, and the Woodchucks are motivated to hand the Shockers their first loss of the past few seasons. I will take the easy way out and predict the unbeaten Shockers as the winner by a 1 score margin, but I would not be surprised if the Woodchucks emerged as champs this week.
