Players of the Week – Week 1
Joe Giuffre – Shockers
The Shockers were looking for revenge in the championship rematch game from the summer season against the Woodchucks in Week 1, and they would get their revenge as they won 46-35. The Guffslinger would complete 27 of 44 passes for 459 yards and 7 TDs. Charlie Barbiere was his top receiver as he hauled in 7 catches for 149 yards and 2 TDs. The Shockers are always a force in the JSGFFL, but last year showed they are not unbeatable. They will take on the Savages in Week 2.
QB Runner Up
The Rabid Squirrels beat the newly formed Savages team in Week 1 42-22. Not only does Sean have a phenomenal first name, but he also had a phenomenal first game last week as he completed 25 of 28 passes for 383 yards, 6 TDs and 1 interception. Collins has a few new targets at his disposal this season, and they sure made an impact in their first game with the Squirrels. WR Andre Snead had 6 catches for 131 yards and 2 TDs, and Shelton Burnett had 2 TDs himself. The Rabid Squirrels are looking dangerous this season but have a big test in Week 2 as they take on the defending champion Woodchucks who will be hungry to not drop to 0-2 on the season.
Shane Capone – Warewolves
Shane Capowned once again this week as he played 2 games and would end the day with 12 catches for 266 yards and 6 TDs. The Warewolves beat both Kekembas and the Gladiators by double digits. Shane had a solid first game, but it’s his 2 nd game that pushed him into the top WR of the week this week. In that second game against the Gladiators, Shane had 7 catches for 171 yards and 3 TDs. Shane was the top receiver in the league last season and looks to stay up top the leaderboards again this season. The Warewolves will take on the Savages in Week 2.
WR Runner Up
Billy Belford – Woodchucks
If Shane Capone hadn’t played 2 games in Week 1, Billy most likely would have been the number 1 receiver this week. But Shane played a second game and absolutely dominated in that game. Billy had a was dominate himself in a losing effort to the Shockers in the rematch of the championship game. Belford had 8 catches for 172 yards and 3 TDs on the day. The defending champion Woodchucks will look to rebound next week but will have a very tough matchup against the Rabid Squirrels.
The Clam Slammers dominated Strangers with Candy to a score of 47-18. Strangers with Candy couldn’t get anything going on offense as the Clam Slammers picked off Strangers’ QB Mike Torrel would throw 5 interceptions, 3 of which would be returned for a TD. Kenny Colicchio and Frank Ritacco each had 2 interceptions and a TD, while Sean Cahalane would chip in the 5 th pick of the day for a TD. The Clam Slammers will look to keep up the winning ways next week against the Assassins in the 1 o’clock game.
Def Runner Up
Casey Sirotniak – Strangers with Candy
Strangers with Candy played 2 games on Saturday and their 2nd game against the Assassins went much better than the first. Strangers with Candy would go on to win their 2nd game 14-12 in the lowest scoring game of the week. Casey Sirotniak had a big game on defense and would have 3 sacks. Casey was 2nd in the league in sacks in the summer season when he played for French Toast Mafia, and looks like he will most likely be up top of the leaderboards for most of this fall season as well. Strangers with Candy head into Week 2 with a 1-1 record and will take on the Kekembas.
