Players of the Week – Week 2 Edition

Players of the Week – Week 2

QB

Joe Giuffre – Shockers

Giuffre was at it again in Week 2 as he threw for 390 yards and 7 TDs in the 59-16 win over the Savages. Joe has now thrown for 849 yards, 14 TDs and 0 interceptions through his first 2 games this season. Giuffre is leading the league in QB Rating, and has the most yards thrown per game with 424.5. The Shockers (2-0) have a tough matchup this upcoming week against the Rabid Squirrels (1-1).

QB Runner Up

Mike Torrell – Strangers with Candy

Mike Torrell bounced back and had a strong Week 2 after throwing 6 interceptions in 2 games in Week 1. Torrell would complete 27-38 passes for 354 yards, 6 TDs, and 1 interception in the 46-12 blowout over the Kekembas. Pat Jensen and Cam Blackwell had big games at WR for Torrell and Strangers with Candy, Pat had 7 catches for 98 yards and a TD, and Cam had 6 catches 107 yards and a TD. Strangers with Candy will look to improve on their 2-1 record as they take on the Gladiators (1-2) in Week 3.

WR

Devon Snead – Shockers

The Shockers won big again in Week 2 as they blew out the Savages 59-16. Snead was the top receiver on the day as he hauled in 5 catches for 160 yards and 3 TDs. It was Snead’s first 3 TDs of the year, and he now has 10 catches for 246 yards. He is 3 rd in the league in yards, and tied for 4 th in the league in both receptions and TDs, although it is worth noting that a few receivers ahead of him have played an extra game. The Rabid Squirrels will have their hands full slowing down Snead and the high powered offense of the Shockers in Week 3.

WR Runner Up

Paul Wickwire – Gladiators

The Gladiators played 2 games in Week 2 and lost their first against the Woodchucks, and then beat the Grizzlies in their second game. Paul makes this list because of the first game he had in the 38-30 losing effort against the Woodchucks. In that game, Wickwire dominated as he had 9 catches for 130 yards and a TD. Total for the day, Paul would end up with 14 catches for 179 yards and 2 TDs, and would even complete 4 of 4 passes for 58 yards and a TD. Wickwire is ranked 4 th on the WR leaderboard so far this season with 18 catches for 212 yards and 2 TDs. The Gladiators (1-2) will take on Strangers with Candy (1-2) in Week 3.

Def

Frank Ritacco – Clam Slammers

The Clam Slammers defense dominated for the second straight week as they held the Assassins to 176 yards of total offense and only 6 points. Frank Ritacco had 2 interceptions in this game and almost returned 1 for a TD if it wasn’t called back because of an illegal block in the back. Frank now has 4 interceptions and 1 defensive TD this season, both are good for the league lead.

Def Runner Up

Jose Ortiz – Woodchucks

The JSGFFL’s biggest hot head is the Def runner up this week, though I am sure he will let me know that he deserved the top spot. The Woodchucks played 2 games in Week 2 and won both of them. Jose had 2 sacks in the first game and an interception in the second game. The Woodchucks continue their tough schedule to start the season as they take on the Warewolves in the Game of the Week for the Week 3.
